going back for seconds. Not much ambiance, but often there is music on
weekends and the food is very good - not gourmet, but good.

Specials daily - excellent soup, salads and sandwiches all the time. Catch up on 'what's happening in Johnson County as you eavesdrop on the locals who frequent this popular luncheon spot. Off the main street, a white house with covered porch for outside dining in nice weather. Only open from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m.

In Mountain City there are other places to eat: Panda Garden for Chinese; Cowboy Knights for barbeque, Mike's Barbeque for take out and eating outside; fast food chains and local drive-in fast food.  All are along route 421

Old-fashioned, home-style cooking: all you can eat with a choice of fried
chicken breast, roast beef or ham and biscuits. Add all the sides and
strawberry shortcake or brownie with ice cream for dessert and diners never
leave hungry. Shirley's also has live music on Friday and Saturday nights. No
reservations, but while you wait a little gift shop helps make the time pass
quickly. Only open Friday and Saturday nights, for Sunday lunch and Saturday
and Sunday for breakfast. Closed December, January, February

A 25 minute drive down around the Lake takes you to one of the finer
restaurants in the immediate area. An 1800's mansion, Carter on Main is across
from the covered bridge and features excellent cuisine as well as a charming fine dining experience.
